On this page we talk in detail about the invitation letter required to obtain a visitor visa to Canada 🍁.
A letter of invitation is a document issued by a permanent resident of Canada or a citizen of this state to an applicant for a visitor visa .
This letter indicates the intention of the inviter to host a friend or relative. But it is worth noting that an invitation does not give legal responsibility to the invitee.
Such a document for a visa can only be drawn up by a person associated with you. It is possible to receive an invitation from a stranger, but if the Canadian government does not understand your connection to the inviter, then your visa will be denied.
What information should an invitation contain?
Like any document, an invitation must be drawn up according to certain rules. Below we will look at what exactly this letter should contain.

Visually, the document is divided into several parts:
- information about the inviter;
- information about the invitee;
- the purpose of the invitee’s visit and details of the stay.
An invitation for a visa to Canada for Russians and residents of other CIS countries must contain the following information about the invitee:
- full name;
- Date of Birth;
- address and telephone;
- connection with this person;
- purpose of the trip;
- how long the visit will last;
- planned place of stay of the invitee;
- how his expenses will be paid.
The inviter must also provide information about himself:
- full name;
- Date of Birth;
- address and telephone number in Canada;
- position held;
- status in Canada.
The person from whom you plan to receive an invitation from Canada must also attach one of the following documents confirming their status in Canada:
- Canadian birth certificate;
- Canadian citizenship if you are a naturalized citizen;
- copy of PR card or IMM 1000 if he is a permanent resident.

Other invitation requirements
The invitation must be written or translated into one of the official languages of Canada – English or French.
The official government website states that the visa center may require the invitation to be notarized. In this case, the inviting person certifies the invitation and sends the original to the invitee.
But the practice is that assurance is usually not asked, and only a scan of the invitation with the signature of the inviter is sufficient. It is necessary to indicate the date when the invitation was drawn up.
Please carefully study and use the Canada Visa Invitation Sample for your application.
